The head of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry denied rumors that Budapest allegedly planned to block the sanctions package due to the possible visit of Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump to the Hungarian capital.
“We have no intention of blocking the new package. We managed to remove all the points that could harm our national interests,” Szijjártó emphasized.
At the same time, the diplomat stressed that he personally does not support Brussels’ sanctions policy, as he believes it does not produce the expected results.
“I have no intention of joining such absurd initiatives. Sanctions don’t work — the war is still ongoing,” the Foreign Minister said, criticizing the EU’s approach to responding to Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.
