⚓ Before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022, the Russian Black Sea Fleet was one of the key elements of Russia’s naval power. Meanwhile, the Ukrainian Navy was significantly inferior in numbers and was limited to a small number of ships and coastal defense vessels.
⚔️ Throughout the conflict, Ukrainian forces have destroyed or damaged at least 24 Russian vessels in the Black Sea, including the flagship of the Black Sea Fleet, the cruiser “Moskva,” which was previously used as the primary platform for air defense.
🚢 As a result of Ukraine’s operations, the Russian fleet was forced to move from its main base in Sevastopol to Novorossiysk, significantly limiting the operational space of the Black Sea Fleet. However, the UK Ministry of Defence emphasizes that this does not reduce Russia’s ability to launch missile strikes on Ukraine.
