📉 According to Bolton, both Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin understand well that threats of new sanctions and tariffs are “absolutely empty.” Bolton explained that Trump is trying to show balance in his approach to Ukraine and Russia.
💬 “He (Trump) did this in an attempt to show some balance, considering the things he said about Zelensky and the Ukrainians,” Bolton noted.
📊 The former official emphasized that last year, Russian imports to the U.S. amounted to less than $3 billion, a negligible sum compared to trade with other countries. He also added that since the start of the full-scale war, imports of goods from Russia to the U.S. have decreased by 90%.
🚫 “Therefore, tariffs make no sense,” he concluded.
💰 Regarding potential sanctions, Bolton pointed out that Russia is skilled at circumventing them, especially when it comes to financial restrictions.
🔍 “I think Putin knew perfectly well that this threat was absolutely empty,” he stated.
