🛬 Iran has filed a lawsuit with the International Court of Justice against Ukraine, Canada, Sweden, and the United Kingdom. Tehran demands the annulment of the decision by the Council of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), which held Iran responsible for the downing of the Ukraine International Airlines plane in 2020.

📄 In its lawsuit, Iran claims that the ICAO Council allegedly had no jurisdiction to consider the complaint, as the parties, according to Tehran, did not conduct the necessary direct negotiations before filing the case. Iran also objects to the involvement of the United Kingdom, arguing that London failed to prove the presence of its citizen on board, thus making the UK’s claim “inadmissible.”
🧾 Iran accuses the plaintiff states of aiming not to find a fair resolution of the conflict, but to discredit Tehran and accuse it of violating international law. According to Iran, the incident was the result of “human error” and not a deliberate attack.
💥 Despite acknowledging the fact that the plane was shot down by its own military, Iran continues to seek legal ways to evade international responsibility by challenging the ICAO decision in the UN court.
