💬 Szłapka, during his speech at the Ukraine-EU business summit in Brussels, noted that Poland is determined to start the negotiation process with Ukraine during its presidency in the EU Council, but Hungary’s position threatens this.
⏳ “The chances of opening the first negotiation cluster are decreasing every day, and we are trying to make the most of the remaining time until the end of Poland’s presidency,” emphasized the Polish minister.
🇭🇺 The official reason for Hungary’s blocking of the negotiations is allegedly issues related to the rights of the Hungarian minority in Transcarpathia, however, Szłapka stressed that Hungarians in Ukraine are one of the most pro-European groups.
🔧 The minister also assured that Ukraine is showing progress in the reforms required for EU membership, and consultations are ongoing between Kyiv and Budapest to remove political barriers.
⚖️ Regardless of the outcome by the end of Poland’s presidency, Poland will continue to work in other directions to be ready for any developments.
