🇪🇺 On February 14, Hungary blocked the opening of the first negotiation cluster on Ukraine’s membership in the European Union. EU diplomats reported that the blockage concerns the first cluster of talks called “Foundation.”

📜 Poland, currently presiding over the EU, presented a draft letter outlining the conditions for opening this cluster, which was to be sent to Ukraine. The letter proposed the development of two roadmaps: one for reforms in the rule of law and another for public administration reforms.
❌ The text received broad support among EU member states; however, Hungary put forward additional demands on Ukraine, particularly regarding the protection of national minorities, which led to the process being blocked. A unanimous agreement of all 27 EU members is required for approval.
⏳ According to RMF FM journalists, this situation could significantly delay or even prevent the opening of the first cluster in April, as it is only the initial stage of a complex procedure.
📢 The blockage occurred on the same day that European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen emphasized the need to accelerate Ukraine’s accession to the EU. Poland, for its part, aims to open two out of six negotiation clusters during its presidency: “Foundation” (rule of law and European values) and “External Relations” (foreign policy and defense).
