🛠️ In 2025, Estonia will begin large-scale fortification construction on the border with russia, including bunkers and defensive structures. According to ERR, the first strongpoint with 14 bunkers in the northeast should be ready by autumn, while four more bunkers will be built on the southeastern border.

🗺️ Overall, the project plans to build around 600 bunkers on the eastern border. The defensive structures will be constructed not only on state-owned land but also on private land, ensuring maximum protection.
⚙️ Estonian military personnel are choosing between two types of bunkers, which were tested in 2024. The tests considered the experience of the war in Ukraine, with the bunkers designed to withstand 152mm shell hits. However, the bunkers were not tested against drones, although enough explosives were used during the trials to ensure protection from them.
🔧 “During bunker installation, we are taking into account the experience gained in Ukraine, where special nets and tools are used against drones to prevent them from directly hitting the bunker,” explained the head of the engineering department of the Defense Forces Division, Ainari Afanasyev.
🚨 In addition to bunkers, anti-tank barriers and fire positions will be installed. Some elements of the defense zone will only be activated in times of crisis, including explosive barriers and measures to destroy bridges and pipelines.
⚠️ According to Afanasyev, these measures will not be applied in peacetime but will become an integral part of the defense strategy in the event of a crisis. The final stage of approval for the locations of strongpoints is currently underway with the Defense Forces.
