🌍 On February 24, the UN General Assembly supported a resolution against Russia, proposed by Ukraine along with other European countries. The resolution, which calls for “an inclusive, just, and lasting peace in Ukraine,” received support from over 50 countries, including Ukraine.
✅ The resolution was supported by 93 countries, 65 abstained, and 18 voted against. The U.S., Russia, and Belarus voted against it, while China abstained.
🇺🇸 The U.S.-sponsored resolution was co-authored by Israel, Georgia, Hungary, and North Macedonia. It did not address Ukraine’s territorial integrity and did not designate Russia as the aggressor. This resolution was supported by 89 countries, Ukraine abstained, and Russia voted against it due to disagreement with an amendment calling for the conflict to end by addressing its root causes.
❌ The U.S. refused to co-author the UN resolution marking the anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Later, the United States proposed its own draft, which differed significantly from the European statement, calling for the swift end of the conflict and the establishment of a lasting peace between Ukraine and Russia.
