📄 According to court documents filed this week, 59-year-old Ryan Routh began preparing for the assassination attempt as early as August 2024. It was then, according to investigators, that he attempted to obtain “anti-aircraft weapons,” which is seen as direct evidence of his intent to kill Trump.
📍 Routh also repeatedly visited West Palm Beach, where Trump frequently stays. In correspondence attached to the case materials, the suspect allegedly wrote to a Ukrainian seller: “I need equipment so Trump can’t win the election,” and also asked for an “RPG or Stinger.”
📬 The person Routh corresponded with is not disclosed, but prosecutors believe that these messages represent “a significant step in the conspiracy.” The document notes that the attempt to acquire such weapons fully aligns with preparations for an assassination attempt on the president’s life.
⚖️ Despite facing five serious charges, including attempting to assassinate a U.S. presidential candidate, Routh has pleaded not guilty.
💬 The case was commented on by Donald Trump Jr. He expressed outrage that Ukraine allegedly did not warn the U.S. about the attempted weapons purchase: “I wonder why they didn’t say anything if this sociopath was trying to buy weapons from them to kill my father?”
