🔍 This was reported by Max Lesser, senior analyst at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies in Washington, to Reuters.
💼 According to him, job openings are posted on job search platforms Craigslist and LinkedIn. Some of the companies making these offers are part of a large network of fake consulting and recruiting agencies. Lesser claims that their goal is to employ former US officials and specialists in artificial intelligence.
🌐 The analyst found that four organizations have digital connections – shared websites and servers. Specifically, companies RiverMerge Strategies and Wavemax Innovation use the same IP address as Smiao Intelligence, which provides internet services. Lesser emphasizes that this structure uses methods typical of Chinese intelligence.
⚠️ “The network exploits the financial vulnerability of former federal employees who were affected by mass layoffs,” noted Lesser.
🛑 Experts consider this case a notable example of how foreign forces attempt to obtain intelligence from former employees dismissed by President Donald Trump’s administration.
🏛️ An anonymous White House representative added that Chinese entities are constantly trying to exploit the “open system” of the US for espionage and coercion.
